Chapter 25
Easton
116 days.
The time it took to turn my life around completely and it was all due to her.
Before Ava I was jaded, roaming through the motions. I lived for work and spent most of my time at the office, only stepping foot inside the penthouse I took so long to renovate when I had to sleep or exercise. It did wonders for Maxwell Industries, but while my professional life thrived, my personal life was almost non-existent.
I was ashamed to admit it, but I rarely saw friends and family outside important dates. I didn't make time for them and unknowingly prioritized my work and others over them. Ella and Patrick were the ones I saw the most, only because they made a point to stop by the office often. Everyone else that was important to me; my mom, Sean, Alfred, Lisa, Melody... I hurt them by distancing myself and justifying my actions by being busy.
On the rare occasions I wasn't in the office, I would spend my time in social gatherings for the elite; politicians, C.E.Os, stockbrokers, investors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, and socialites. Most of them had a high superiority complex I didn't appreciate.
Yet, I would make sure to mingle with everyone, partly because connections were meaningful in my world and partly because even the busiest man can have an overwhelming sense of loneliness.
When it struck, my first instinct was to go to a bar, drink heavily and allow myself to be seduced by the first woman that showed interest. I wasn't proud of it, but it helped put a temporary band-aid on the matter.
I'd have one-time-only meaningless sex encounters in the strangest places, shutting down any proposals for more every time. Almost.
Now, with Ava sleeping soundly in my arms as our naked bodies entangled after a night of unforgettable moments I wouldn't trade for the world, I could say with certainty that I regretted every time I chose work over rest, worthwhile occasions, and the people that mattered the most.
The moment she gave herself to me was the moment I realized I was no longer lonely. I had her â the girl who completely changed my perspective on life and saved me from a lifetime of regret.

We reached Nova hand in hand, and I helped Ava walk up the steps with her heels to ensure she didn't fall.
She had picked a short, skin-tight white dress with flared sleeves and an opening in the middle, exposing her waist. The heels she chose were pointy and transparent, and the necklace I gave her adorned her neck. She had a white hairband on her head, and her hair was loose, which she spent a significant part of the day styling into waves.
She looked stunning, and I made sure to let her know over and over again.
I could feel her tense as we walked past the bouncers in front of everyone else waiting to get in, and I rubbed her hand with my thumb, trying to reassure her as we walked the corridor toward the VIP platform.
